Tokyo Reading Room started as a handful of friends meeting over coffee and a shared book — a small excuse to slow down, read something on purpose, and talk about it with people who'd actually read it too. It's grown since, but the idea hasn't changed.

We're not a book club in the strict sense. There's no reading quota and no test at the door. You can come having finished the book, halfway through it, or having only skimmed the back cover. What matters is showing up curious.

What we read

Fiction, philosophy, science, memoir, the occasional slim book that fits in a coat pocket. We pick one book at a time and sit with it for a while — no ranked lists, no rush to the next thing. Gatherings happen around Tokyo, in cafés, libraries, and living rooms.
